70. Pole Dancing Classes

Huge Shout out to Empower Pole Fitness. I took classes with them in early 2022. I. can. not. believe. I. did. that. I am not in great shape and have not been for a while. I was hoping to wait until I was but I had a friend interested in going so I jumped on the band wagon.

Walking into that first class I was terrified. I definitely could not lift myself onto the pole, the spins were difficult and I definitely did not watch myself in the mirror. On the flip side, there was something about tackling this adventure while it was veeerrry far from my comfort zone that made it even more empowering. I left feeling exonerated from feelings of shame in myself. I found myself pushing my mind to stay open to the positives, staying open to the possibility of change and the need to feel uncomfortable because of the stretch into a new persona.

I was shocked to find how much I could actually do. Turns, dips, walks, floor work, body rolls, etc. I was capable. I am able to to learn. I am able to push myself and I am able to grow. I learned so much not only about the athleticism of strippers or recreational pole dancers, not only about dance moves, not only new information, but also about myself. I did have moments of frustration and maybe a few tears, but I did it. And there were even moments I rocked the HELL out of that pole…. metaphorically.
