26. Buy a House

Since this website has been a long time coming, let me fill you in. Due to confidentiality reasons I won’t post a picture of my actual house. However, I feel that this tiny cube house posted above his a hysterical hyperbole to describe my most beloved home.

Not even 6 months after beginning the monumental task of creating this bucket list my family and I found ourselves in a dire living situation. We no longer got along with our downstairs neighbors, our family of 5 was about to become a family of 6 and unfortunately the homes in our area were not suitable for a large clan such as ours. So with a little help from my in-laws, a little research and elbow grease on my end and few pay stubs from my hard working husband, we finally found a home.

I initially didn’t love the house we ended up buying, but it was the house we could afford and once the down payment had landed I was over the moon with gratitude. It does not escape me that not everyone gets this opportunity, let alone when they are in a sticky situation. I remind myself constantly, even 5 years later, how lucky we were to have the support we received, a home just large enough to hug us all, and all 4 walls are intact. Words cannot express just how grateful I am to be in this 4 bedroom bunkhouse that somehow has exactly what we need, no more and no less.

To my family and I this was a major item to cross of the list since we had already moved 6 times in 5 years by that point. We had never had a home. We had never felt the stability of familiar walls that hold all your memories. My kids had changed so many schools that it was almost starting to be reminiscent of the role Hillary Duff played in “The Perfect Man”. You know what I mean, the daughter who refuses to get attatched to anyone or anything because she knows she’ll be leaving it all behind anyway.

It’s taken me until this year to realize we really are home in this house. I finally want to take pride in it, decorate it, and make it feel as cozy as we all have become. This one has been an adventure I will forever treasure and can’t wait to see what other memories we can make together in this little house full of love, now, as a family of 7.
